The Assessment Process

The AAC assessment is tailored specifically to your individual needs and situation, ensuring a personalised approach rather than a "one-size-fits-all" solution.

Each assessment includes a detailed personal interview to explore how a neurodevelopmental condition may have impacted your past and current situation. We'll discuss how a potential diagnosis could enhance your understanding of your strengths and challenges.

You will be asked to nominate someone familiar with your childhood and development, such as a parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, or former teacher.

We utilise evidence-based assessment tools that adhere to the guidelines of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE): NICE Guidelines & NICE Guidance.

Following the completion of interviews, tests, and questionnaires, your data will be reviewed in our weekly multidisciplinary team meeting. You will then receive an assessment report detailing any diagnosis and how to make sense of it. This assessment report is yours and you may wish to share this assessment report with others, such as your GP or employer etc. If you want the AAC to send this assessment report to your GP, employer etc. There is an additional administrative fee of £125.

Please note that a diagnosis of Autism or ADHD is not guaranteed. If our findings do not meet the diagnostic criteria, this will be clearly explained in your assessment report.

The Four Assessment Steps

Your assessment journey happens in four clear stages, once you have decided whether an assessment for ADHD, ASD, or a combined assessment is right for you.

Step One: Payment & Booking

The first step is securing your appointment time and beginning your registration.

  • You will first pay for your chosen assessment before booking your appointment.

  • Immediately following payment, you will receive a secure booking link to Carebit where you can select your preferred clinician, location, and the date and time of your appointment. (Please note: appointments are generally booked at least one month in advance.)

Step Two: Registration & Questionnaire Completion

Once your appointment is booked, you will receive a series of automated forms to complete your registration and provide essential clinical information.

  • This 'on-boarding' process includes filling out your personal details, completing specific clinical questionnaires (like the ASRS, HQ10, etc.), and signing a consent form.

  • We will ask you to name somebody who knew you well during your childhood and teens (an 'informant') to answer questions about your early development.

Step Three: Your Appointment

This is your dedicated face-to-face appointment where the assessment is carried out.

  • Your interview will be with one of our experienced clinicians (a consultant psychiatrist or consultant clinical psychologist).

  • We may use recognised diagnostic tools such as the ADOS-2 (for ASD) and the Qb Test (for ADHD) as part of the process.

Step Four: Outcome & Report

The final step is receiving your clear feedback and the comprehensive assessment report.

  • Your assessment findings will be discussed by the AAC multidisciplinary team (MDT).

  • Whether or not a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism is reached, you will receive a detailed, comprehensive report outlining all findings.

  • The report belongs to you. You may choose if you want AAC to share it with other people (e.g., your GP or employer). An administrative fee of £125 applies if we share the report on your behalf.

  • You have the option to attend a follow-up appointment (in person or online) to discuss the outcome of the assessment and ask any final questions.
